Hello

I'm Alv Torrens, Senior Product Designer

*Hola, Hoi, Bonjour

// Drag me
// Who am I?

I'm a Senior Product Designer with over ten years of experience, mostly in places where things go wrong at the worst possible moment: airlines, fintech and back-office tools.

The job is the same everywhere. Find what breaks, get business, ops and engineering to a fix we all believe in, then make it human, simple and ready to ship. And have fun doing it, which matters more than it sounds.

// My approach

Design is a way of thinking, not just making

Whether I'm mapping out a design system, talking to real users, sketching on a scrap of paper or polishing tiny details, I'm looking for the same thing: the place where something breaks, and what it would take to fix it.

I'd rather help shape the strategy than be handed it to decorate. Most of the work is getting the people who build it to a solution everyone believes in, and that ships faster and breaks less than one I just won the argument for.

Complexity is where I'm happiest. Years of operational tools taught me that a broken edge case isn't a bug ticket, it's a real person having a bad day, usually at an airport.

I've been the founding designer on a team, hired three designers, mentored them, and set up the ops so the good work doesn't depend on me being in the room. Making other designers better turned out to be the part I love most.

Workshops, vision sprints, research sessions, the unglamorous handoff: I stay hands-on, keep things calm, and try to leave the team better at it than I found it.

I keep poking at new tools, AI or not, so the way I work next year doesn't look like the way I work now. I use AI for research and prototyping, and I care more about judging its output than producing it: knowing when it's right, when it's confidently wrong, and what to do about the difference. The tools keep changing. The designer, not the tool, still makes the work good.
